This is the first, organized Sierra Vista Trail Run. It is a free event co-sponsored by the Bureau of Land Management.
Three distances are available: Marathon, half-marathon, and a 5-mile option. All routes will begin at the Sierra Vista Trail trail head on Soledad Canyon road. The marathon and half marathon will head south and turn around at the Vado trail head and Mossman Arroyo (Bishops Cap) trail heads, respectively. The 5 mile route will head north on the new section of the Sierra Vista Trail and turn around at the Dripping Spring road trail head. Aid stations will be set up every three to four miles. The stations will provide water, food and limited emergency/first aid care.
A signed waiver will be required before beginning the event. The Sierra Vista Trail is desert, rocky, sandy, uneven, ankle twisting, scraping, pokey, rough, rattle snake biting terrain. Please be prepared for this and know your own abilities and expectations. Review the rules and course prior to the event. Aid stations are 3-4 miles apart. All participants will be required to carry at least one water bottle. Bottles can be filled at the aid stations. Try not to die.
Please arrange and participate in carpooling. Limited parking will be available at the Soledad Canyon road trailhead and road side. Areas to park and ride nearby are A Mountain and Soledad Canyon day use areas.
More information about the trail can be found at the Bureau of Land Management website.
